Communications Account Executive

We are looking for a budding PR star with proven media relations, writing and client service skills to join our growing communications team as an Account Executive in the Washington, D.C., office.

M+R offers an exciting, fast-paced environment, one that encourages entrepreneurism and nurtures the growth of its leaders, both established and emerging. The successful candidate will support M+R’s senior communications staff in a variety of responsibilities ranging from client management and media strategy to campaign or account implementation and mentoring junior staff and interns. The ideal Account Executive will possess client service acumen, solid media relations and PR writing skills and a demonstrated ability to create high-impact outreach strategies that involve multiple communications tools and tactics. Agency, campaign and social media experience a plus.

Qualifications

  • Two to three years of communications experience; prior PR agency, consulting or other client-facing experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated media relations aptitude and experience — including feature stories, expert positioning, and op-eds— with both national and regional media.
  • Strong writing skills coupled with creative and strategic thinking.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a team environment, including experience nurturing or managing junior staff.
  • Political, public policy or non-profit experience also desirable.
  • Experience in implementing integrated campaigns a plus.

Online Consultant

M+R Strategic Services is looking for a Consultant to join our team of Internet experts to work on successful, cutting-edge online campaigns. You’ll be an integral part of the eCampaigns Team at M+R, working with progressive, public-interest nonprofit organizations to recruit online activists, influence public policy, raise money online, and deepen relationships with online supporters. You’ll work with some of the best nonprofit causes of the day – establishing equality with Human Rights Campaign, protecting reproductive rights with NARAL Pro-Choice America and fighting global poverty with Oxfam America.

Job Responsibilities

  • Strategy & Planning: Develop overall online strategies for clients and write long and short-term plans for the implementation.
  • Client Management: Serve as a point of contact for 3-4 nonprofit clients, managing the day-to-day relationship with those clients and managing the internal team serving those clients.
  • Project Management: Manage a team of specialists and vendors through development and marketing projects from start to finish. Examples include microsite development, viral video development and social media application development.
  • Message & Content Development: Develop and write email and website copy that will be used to promote our clients online, reinforce the client’s core brand, and also synchronize with the offline campaigning efforts.
  • Online Marketing: Coordinate advertising campaigns and implement other marketing efforts such as search engine registration, DotCom partnerships, cross promotions etc.
  • Database Management: Manage databases of online activists to ensure that data is kept current and to maximize return rates from online activism and fundraising appeals.
  • Campaign Optimization: Develop testing strategies, implement statistical testing and provide strategic insight on results.
  • Technology Management: Work with clients to manage their technology providers (ASPs,) such as Convio and Kintera, and offer advice on other technology solutions.
  • Staff Supervision: Manage 1-3 online staff, supervising their day-to-day activities, overall workload, and helping them grow their skill set.
  • New Client Acquisition: Identify prospective clients, make phone and in-person pitches, participate in pitch meetings with other M+R staff.

Qualifications

We need a smart, talented, ambitious individual who can do it all and is committed to making a difference.

Successful applicants must be detail-oriented, possess strong analytical skills, have experience managing multiple projects at once, communicate effectively both on paper and in person, and be comfortable adapting to new technologies.

5+ years of online advocacy and online fundraising experience for non-profits or political candidates is required. Agency experience is preferred.

Online Associate

  • Run queries and create monthly client reports to track email messaging, advocacy campaigns, membership recruitment, and return on investment;
  • Manipulate and manage data and help draft memos on campaign results;
  • Assist in managing online paid marketing campaigns;
  • Assist in implementation of marketing initiatives; and
  • Other client management backup as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects is essential.

  • Thorough knowledge of web applications and HTML;

Assistant Controller

Position Summary
The Assistant Controller plays a pivotal role in our Finance Department in the accounting operations of the organization. This position is based in our Washington, DC, office and reports to M+R’s Vice President, Finance/Controller

Job Responsibilities

  • Process accounts payable ensuring accurate and efficient operation.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries for Controller’s review.
  • Prepare bank reconciliations. Prepare financial statements for Controller’s review.
  • Ensure general ledger is maintained accurately for final reporting purposes and in compliance with General Accepted Accounting Standards.
  • Ensure internal controls and policies are followed during the monthly close process.
  • Understand and coordinate fiscal year close process and setup of the new year.
  • Prepare detail payroll journal entries for Controller’s review.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly state tax returns, personal property and U.S. Census reports with understanding of filing requirements.
  • Assist in preparations and schedules for annual preparation of company corporate tax returns.
  • Effectively and professionally communicate with staff. Responsible for the timely and efficient monthly submission of financial information to Controller.
  • Prepare internal audit reports as needed. Research, review and report on special projects assigned by Controller.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Controller.

Qualifications

  • Five to seven years experience in accounting and/or finance.
  • Ability to review and interpret financial data.
  • Strong analytical, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience overseeing accounting staff and functions.
  • Experience in preparation and maintenance of accounting Excel spreadsheets and have strong computer skills.
  • Must be well organized and detail oriented.
  • Ability to multi-task and produce quality work.
  • Helpful to have a wide knowledge base of a variety of accounting software systems.
